As an Artist and Outfitter, Steve Hawkins demonstrates to us an appreciation for the wilderness.  I am are pleased to have available for you a unique selection of my beautiful artwork.  You may view these selections, but you will have to imagine the weight and fine quality of the detail for yourself.

Steve Hawkins considers himself a native Montanan even though he was born in Tennessee.  He has lived his entire life here except for his first few months.

Steve was raised in the Yaak, the far northwest corner of the state.  Some consieder this area still untamed.  He attended grade school in a one-room school house with one teacher for all eight grades.  He spent his youth hunting and fishing this untamed area, and grew up loving the outdoors.

Upon graduating from high school in 1972 he started working for an outfitter in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.  He acquired his own business in 1979, becoming one of the youngest outfitters in the Bob Marshall.  He continues to outfit and guide, hunting in northwest Montana and guiding fishing float trips in the Bob Marshall.

Steve considers himself a wildlife conservationist, always active with the Department of  Fish, Wildlife and Parks, currently on the Citizens Advisory Council.  He is also active with the Montan Outfitters and Guides Association and is interactive with the Forest Service.

Steve is a self-taught artist, discovering his talent in 1991 by picking up a piece of clay and creating his first work.  His work reflects his knowledge and love of the subjects he creates.  His first piece, a 6'5" pack string, takes time to study as there is great detail given to the animals and packs down to the half-hitches and slip knots on the packs and buckles on the saddles.
